A bit more about me and what I do...

I’m a National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC), Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach (FMCHC) and graduate of the

Functional Medicine Coaching Academy, where I received my training in health coaching, functional medicine and positive psychology. I’m also a

HeartMath® Certified Practitioner and a ReCODE 2.0 Certified Coach working with clients in Apollo Health's Preventing Cognitive Decline and Reversing Cognitive Decline (PreCODE and ReCODE) programs based on the groundbreaking work of Dr. Dale Bredesen, author of The End of Alzheimer’s.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Communication from Northwestern University and did graduate work in adult learning and development. For the past 25 years I have worked with national and global companies as a communications strategist, writer and consultant focusing on health, technology and green/sustainable business.

My involvement with functional medicine began 20 years ago on a business trip when I met the President of the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) on an airplane. That wonderful, serendipitous conversation led to some work with IFM and a number of profound health and healing experiences for myself and my family as patients of functional medicine doctors.

In 2008 I was invited to join the IFM Board of Directors, on which I served for 8.5 years. After my tenure there, I served on the Board of Advisors for the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy for four years.

I live on a small farm outside of Portland, Oregon with my husband/business partner, an amazing rescue dog, five chickens, three Shetland sheep and a lot of deer wandering through the yard. In my spare time, I enjoy writing, cooking, making music, traveling, photography and tending our organic garden and orchard.

What is Functional Medicine Health & Wellness Coaching?

Functional medicine health coaching -- also known as functional wellness coaching -- combines the art of coaching and positive psychology with the science of functional medicine approaches to food, exercise, stress management and other lifestyle factors.

As your coach, I support you in setting, achieving and maintaining your health and wellness goals in a way that is tailored to your unique body, mind and life situation. I help you tap into your strengths, overcome obstacles and stay motivated to reach wellness.

and create new ones that do.

How is a health coach different from a doctor, therapist or nutritionist?

In health and wellness coaching, the focus is on

you becoming your best self.

As a coach, I don’t diagnose, prescribe or tell you what to do. Rather, I partner with you on your journey to better health and wellness. I work with you to help you discover the mental, emotional and spiritual components that drive your motivation to heal, grow and reach your goals. And I help you make new practices fit into your daily life.

For example, maybe your doctor has advised you to cut back on carbs, lower your stress level or get more exercise. That’s great. So how do you make those things work in real life?

That’s where health and wellness coaching comes in. The medical practitioner tells you where to go. As your coach, I help you find your path, then I walk that path with you, serving as your guide, providing information, offering compassionate accountability and helping you stay motivated along the way.
